ACS Main Building

151 Main Campus

Opened in the Winter of 2007, our 14-acre campus is the center of operations for the City of San Antonio Animal Care Services. Services available include adoptions, owner reclaim , permit purchasing, pet microchipping, stray pet drop-off, mandated rabies observation, and volunteer opportunities. Our campus contains 2 buildings for stray and adoptable dogs, a cattery for stray and adoptable cats, an annex building housing our training rooms (available for rent) and volunteer offices – all open to the public.

One of our partners, San Antonio Pets Alive!, operates Building 1 on our campus with pets also available for adoption. You may find representatives from San Antonio Humane Society and Animal Defense League on our campus as they assist with finding live outcomes for those stray and roaming pets brought to this facility.

In addition, the 151 location also hosts weekly low-cost vaccination clinics, pet trainings, volunteer opportunities, and other community events. Check out our calendar for a list of events!

Animal Care Services 151 Main Campus is located at 4710 State Highway 151 off of Highway 151 and Old Highway 90 Road. We are located right next door to the San Antonio Food Bank. We are open 7 days a week.

Ground Breaking of New Kennel Facility

Stray Dog Kennels at the Animal Defense League

Part of the 2012-2017 Capital Bond Program, $2.2 million was approved for the construction of kennels to increase the City's capacity to house stray pets. An option to use the funds to build additional capacity at a location other than the City's shelter was included. Increasing our community partnerships and saving the City $2 million in annual operating expenses, stray dog kennels were constructed and opened in the Winter of 2014 at the location of one of our partners, the Animal Defense League. These two adult dog buildings and a puppy room will hold pets solely rescued from ACS and increase the number of positive placements of companion animals by approximately 3,100 pets per year. The kennels will hold pets during their stray hold period, at which point will enter the ADL adoption program, if not reclaimed by their owner.

The Animal Defense League is situated on the northeast side of San Antonio and is located at 11300 Nacogdoches Road near Wurzbach Parkway and Nacogdoches Road intersection. ADL is open 7 days a week from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm for owner reclaim and adoptions. Please contact the Animal Defense League at 210.655.1481 or visit their website.
