Spay/Neuter Poetry in Motion! Last weekend in Chinle was a barn-burner for sure….longer than normal hours, wheels constantly in motion and we needed every one of the throngs of volunteers who showed up to assist the animals and people of the Navajo! It was our biggest two-day clinic to date and 259 surgeries later, we feel like a big step was taken towards healthier and happier Navajo dogs and cats ❤️❤️❤️❤️ A heap of vaccines were also given out to the community! #savinglives #spayandneuter #chinle #navajo #volunteer #souldogrescue In addition, 59 dogs and cats were transferred out to start anew as "city" animals. We are endlessly grateful for each and every volunteer and donor who made this colossal clinic possible! Kendrick has baked for many events and fundraising parties for the past 20 years. She was formerly the pastry baker and Tea Luncheon chef at the Patterson Inn, Denver. Hear ye, Hear ye! We have a wonderful girl who has been overlooked time and time again who we think the world of! We are hoping to find someone who will love her as much as we do! Meet Mary J Blige! She is part pitbull, part cattle dog, but 100% AMAZINGLY WONDERFUL! About 50 pounds and She was adopted out as a covid pup and brought back as an overweight young lady. She is good with all other dogs, has good manners, potty-trained and likes to play but also settles down. She loves people, is engaged, loving and makes friends with everyone! She recently had a weekend reprieve from the shelter and this is what her hosts had to say: She's been such a good little guest. She was great with our dogs and my kids and all their friends loved her. They even put her in. tutu on Halloween. She's such a good girl. Thanks for letting us have her for a few days. We hope to come get her again soon if that's alright.I would definitely keep her if I could just talk my husband into it! Meet her at the Fort Lupton shelter any day 10-5. Last weekend in Kayenta….a few dedicated and amazing folks banded together at our new Western Agency Spay/Neuter Center to help the people and animals of this area. They worked their tails off for two short days and 123 animals were spayed/neutered and vaccinated. It is AMAZING to see perfection in play and the quiet teamwork that takes places is truly without words. Everyone fits together like a puzzle and makes it look easy! In addition, 62 animals made their way to new parts in search of new homes! We LOVE working with our new partners from Nuzzles in Utah and our blended family doesnt miss a beat! We can supply all supplies, we just need a safe place for them to land. Our Livesaving Work on the Rez! Slow to post but so psyched to share what we have been up to on the rez lately!!! A mammoth clinic in Shiprock! 195 animals were sterilized, vaccinated and given the Spaw Treatment by our medical team and volunteers in a mere two days! The teamwork was at the core as the days were efficient and a whole heck of a lotta animals will be coming out on top! Thank you to TAF, C.A.R.E. and our donors for being the gas that goes in our mighty tank! Thank you Turquoise Paw for joining forces and keeping everyone happy and fed well! Then…the following week we were back at it (with our friends from Nuzzles) in Kayenta at our new Western Agency Spay/Neuter Center to do a "small" clinic and a quick 77 animals! Thank you to our donors for making this clinic possible! What's up with dogs/porcupines meeting head on? We have now seen, treated or heard about 6 encounters in 10 days! This sweet peach was picked up abandoned at a remote gas station with a face full of the prickles. In between all the spaying, close to 125 animals were rescued and sent to partners, our shelter and our fosters to live the happiest life! So many little pieces add up to one giant hunk of amazing work! Thank you all! One of our amazing fosters, would like you to meet a pup currently living the best foster life: "This is Gus Gus… He is a real happy guy, but we called him grumpy Gus when we first got him. Gus and his sisters were abandoned and left to fend for themselves. They had absolutely no human contact or interaction for the first few months of their lives. They could not be touched and would not make eye contact. Gus Gus needs to be in a home with someone who will work with him as he is still very shy. Everything he does is a wonderful milestone. He was the most outgoing of all his siblings and now sleeps in the bed with his foster mom. He would be great in a home with other dogs because he really loves his pack at his foster house, and he is most comfortable with other dogs. He will need lots of love and patience, but it will be worth it in the end. His favorite thing to do is give bops with his nose to show affection. He is a great boy!" Meet one of our pups and hear from her foster mom: "Rey is incredibly outgoing, loves meeting new people including children, other dogs and cats. She is about 7 months old and is the most chill puppy ever. She is fully potty trained and is currently learning basic commands. She has a very unique eye which is all brown except for a sliver of blue. Her tail wags in a circle when she gets super excited and she loves getting belly scratches, chasing bugs and chewing her nylabone. Rey is certainly a unicorn puppy with the right mix of outgoing, loving, goofy and calm demeanor. She would love a home where she gets showered with attention and since she is still a puppy she will need to be let out for potty breaks more frequently than an adult dog. Man are we proud to share with our followers the impact that we have on and the work we do for animals worldwide!!! A small but mighty team of volunteers in is Ecuador spaying/neutering and promoting animal welfare to a few indigenous and poverty-stricken communities! To date, 244 animals have been sterilized and the importance of our animals in our lives shared with many many children. We aren't done yet, but we wanted to take a minute to share our work! Perfection in Sanostee! We love the small communities and bringing such needed services right to the most remote locales! Our team continues to be a well-oiled machine that shows time and time again what an awesome group of people we are in this field of S and N! 109 dogs and cats sterilized and vaccinated in two days, many more treated for a myriad of ailments by our beast of a staff!! Without capacity at the shelter, the only transport was a pup with a broken leg, but it is one who needed help pretty badly! Proud of the work we do, the way we do it and the outcomes! Next up…a monster clinic in Shiprock! Field trip day for several shelter dogs! Thank the universe we have such amazingly dedicated folks that will do anything for our shelter animals! A few select, well behaved dogs had an excursion to a lake today courtesy of Kelsey Stocks, Riggs Wirth, Taylor Wirth and Steve Zachar! These guys had a fantastic day, came back ready to take a nap, and were available for adoption. It's a win-win-win! If you were looking for an amazing dog, look no further! This is a program that we would absolutely love to do every week weather permitting, but we have to have dedicated volunteers because it's a lot of work. Fosters…..if we can just get these adorable babies out to foster, we can save the groups in dire need on the rez… -Mom with 11 newborns (mom It's not keen on other dogs around her or the babies) -Likely small breed terrier mixes -shep/aussie mixes -a single, sweet terrier mix teen who is a parvo survivor and also had a tick born illness that resulted in a lengthy hospital stay - a sweet bigger shep x female that arrived skin and bones, covered in ticks, likely has a hip out of socket or a broken leg (xrays next week in Boulder we hope), and gets bullied by other puppies. She is so sweet but needs in foster - a sweet mama cat trying to nurse 12 babies. Some of them are hers and some of them are not but she is a great mama. Kayenta clinic! A few days late as we had a crazy week but an update from our recent Kayenta clinic! 96 animals sterilized amd vaccinated, many many more vaccinated, a wonderful team, wonderful people from the community and the best animals around! What could honestly be better?!?!!!? We are such a well-oiled team with the most amazing volunteers, and we work with the safety and care of the animals over everything else! It is perfection at work and it we are so grateful to be able to do this work in the most beautiful areas! Of course we took in a few medical cases, including a dog that had been shot and had a dangling leg (Mase is now in Denver receiving care) Thank you to TAF and Colorado Animal Rescue Express for being our best friends always in this truly lifesaving work! We cherish your lotalty and support month after month! Thank you to our incredible vets, techs and clinic assistants and the hard working team behind the scenes (Taylor and Mary Ann) putting the pieces together to make sure these clinics go well! Just a quick lil trip thru Shiprock last weekend to try and help some of the thousands on the waitlist for S/N and it turned into kind of a big deal! It was hot as hell (106 ish) but we got thru it! 87 animals sterilized, vaccinated and ready to look their best and be their best selves! The kicker….one vet, one bad-ass surgery tech, one bad-ass recovery tech and then a small but mighty assortment of Soul Dog's finest was all we had to get the job done! A huge assist from Turquoise Paw for partnering On this last minute Event, and bringing in some muscle to make things go smoothly AND some great local vols covered lunch! Lots of little lives saved and transported to other parts as they prepare for their new lives! And our fundraisers for now have ended. All of us at Soul Dog Rescue cannot say THANK YOU enough. This was an amazing 2 weeks that we learned a lot, cried often, stomped our feet a time or two, but in the end none of us would change a thing. Soul Dog Rescue and Animal Balance are launching a new initiative, Operation Łééchąą'í. Operation Łééchąą'í is a new annual event happening the week of June 12th to 21st, starting in 2021 During the dedicated week, all the animal welfare nonprofit organizations will serve Navajo communities where they have established programs, during the same week of the year. The purpose of the week will be to bring attention and awareness to the critical need in the Navajo Nation for basic veterinary medical care. "Operation Łééchąą'í" acts as a platform to secure veterinary resources for the Navajo Nation. To kick off the very first Operation Łééchąą'í, Soul Dog will be holding a clinic in Crownpoint, June 12 & 13; Animal Balance will hold a clinic June 17-21 in Pine Hill, NM. Other groups will be added, as this annual event gains interest across the Navajo Nation.
